This article reports the synthesis and characterization of four arm star‐shaped poly(styrene‐b‐[(butadiene)1?x‐(ethylene‐co‐butylene)x]‐b‐styrene) (SBEBS) copolymers. A series of SBEBS copolymers with different compositions of the elastomeric block were produced by hydrogenating a given poly(styrene‐b‐butadiene‐b‐styrene) (SBS) copolymer using a catalyst prepared from bis(η5‐cyclopentadienyl)titanium(IV) dichloride and n‐butyllithium. The characterization was accomplished by proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H NMR), infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The results indicate that there is a selective saturation of the polybutadiene block over the polystyrene block; this selectivity was determined by the Ti/Li molar ratio and the concentration of Ti. It was observed that the saturation rate of the 1,2‐vinyl was higher than that of the 1,4‐trans and 1,4‐cis poly(butadiene)‐b isomers. The DSC and DMA results indicate that the degree of hydrogenation had a profound effect on the polymer's relaxation behavior. All samples exhibited a biphasic system behavior with two distinct transitions corresponding to the elastomeric and polystyrene blocks. SBEBS copolymers with higher saturation levels (>33%) exhibited a crystalline character. The TGA results indicated a characteristic weight loss temperature in all samples, with slightly higher thermal degradation stabilities in the materials with higher degrees of saturation. POLYM. ENG. Electrochemical reduction has been pointed out as a promising method for CO2 valorisation into useful chemicals. This paper studies the influence of key variables on the performance of an experimental system for continuous electro-reduction of CO2 to formate, when a tin plate is used as working electrode. Particular emphasis is placed on comparing the performance of Sn and Pb as cathodes. As was previously found with Pb, the influence of current density (“j”) using Sn was particularly noteworthy, and when j was raised up to a limit value of 8.5 mA cm−2, important increases of the rate of formate production were observed at the expense of lowering the Faradaic efficiency. However, unlike what was found with Pb, the performance using Sn improved when the electrolyte flow rate/electrode area ratio was increased within the range studied (0.57–2.3 mL min−1 cm−2). In this way, the use of Sn as cathode allowed achieving rates of formate production that were 25% higher than the maximum rates obtained with Pb, together with Faradaic efficiencies close to 70%, which were 15 points higher than those with Pb. These results reinforce the interest in Sn as electrode material in the electro-reduction of CO2 to formate.  相似文献

This article presents a novel method to encapsulate gas-borne nanoparticles with a polymeric shell. This method implies heterogeneous condensation of monomer vapor around the surface of nanoparticles as nuclei and polymerization is then subsequently started by addition of NH3 as aerosol initiator. Ag and SiO2 nanoparticles were generated as inorganic core by spark discharge and nebulization, respectively, and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) was used as organic monomer. The effect of several parameters, including vapor pressure of monomer and properties of inorganic core such as morphology, material, particle size, and production method on the thickness of polymeric shell and morphology of resulting nanocomposites has been investigated. The particle size distribution and morphology of the resulting core-shell nanoparticles have been studied via scanning mobility particle sizer (SMPS) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). Finally, the coating efficiency was determined by aerosol photoemission (APE) and the results show that monomer and polymer coating efficiency are 99% and 60%, respectively.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common cause of chronic liver disease in industrialized countries. The increasing prevalence of NAFLD mirrors the outbreak of obesity in western countries, highlighting the connection between these two conditions. Nevertheless, there is currently no specific pharmacotherapy for its treatment. Accepted management begins with weight loss and exercise. Moreover, exercise can provide metabolic benefits independently of weight loss. It is known how long-term aerobic training produces improvements in hepatic triglycerides, visceral adipose tissue and free fatty acids, even if there is no weight reduction. A recent study from Boström et al. unravels a potential molecular mechanism that may explain how exercise, independently of weight loss, can potentially improve metabolic parameters through a new messenger system (irisin) linking muscle and fat tissue. Irisin has been proposed to act as a hormone on subcutaneous white fat cells increasing energy expenditure by means of a program of brown-fat-like development. Moreover, it was also shown that irisin plasma concentration was higher in people who exercise, suggesting a molecular mechanism by which exercise may improve metabolism. The present systematic review is based on the possibility that irisin might represent a hypothetical connection between NAFLD pathogenesis and disease progression.  相似文献

Natural organic matter (NOM) and trihalomethane formation potential (THMFP) removal were evaluated by ultrafiltration (UF) and nanofiltration (NF). Ten different raw water sources in Alicante province (SE Spain) were analysed. Five types of membranes of different materials were tested with a dead-end-type stirred UF cell. Additional measurements, such as dissolved organic carbon, ultraviolet absorbance (254nm), THMFP, ion concentration, pH, conductivity, etc. were made on raw water, permeates and concentrates. The SUVA value was used to determine the hydrophobicity of the water analysed. The elimination of NOM and THMFP is correlated with the molecular weight (MW) of NOM determined by size exclusion chromatography (SEC). The flux decline trends were correlated with cation concentration. NOM removal by UF is low, which correlates with the average MW determined by SEC with an average value of 922g/mol (between 833 and 1031g/mol). However, the NOM removal obtained with the NF90 and NF270 NF membranes for all water sources is almost complete (90%). THMFP removal is related to hydrophobicity and permeability of membrane. The NFT50 membrane removes almost 100% of the THMFP of more hydrophobic waters.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to investigate the environmental dispersal of Cryptosporidium spp. and Giardia duodenalis in two distinct areas (coastal and inland) in Galicia (NW Spain). Faecal samples were collected from healthy asymptomatic domestic (cows and sheep) and wild animals (deer and wild boars) in the selected areas. In each of the selected areas, samples of untreated water (influent) and of treated water (final effluent) were collected from each of the 12 drinking water treatments plants (DWTPs) and 12 wastewater treatment plants (WTPs) under study. Analysis of a single sample from each of the 635 (coastal) and 851 (inland) domestic and wild animals selected at random revealed that the prevalences of cryptosporidiosis and giardiosis in coastal area were 9.2% and 15.9% respectively, and in inland area, 13.7% and 26.7% respectively. In the coastal area, Cryptosporidium spp. oocysts were detected in influent and effluent samples from 2/12 (16.6%) DWTPs and 8/12 (66.6%) WTPs, while G. duodenalis cysts were detected in influent and effluent samples from 3/12 (25.0%) DWTPs and 12/12 (100%) WTPs. The concentrations were notably higher in WTPs; the mean parasite concentrations in the final treated effluent were 10 oocysts per litre and 137.8 cysts per litre for Cryptosporidium and Giardia, respectively. The mean concentration of G. duodenalis cysts per litre was significantly higher (P < 0.05) than the mean concentration of Cryptosporidium spp. oocysts per litre in both the influent and the effluent samples from all the treatment plants. In the coastal area, C. parvum, C. hominis and G. duodenalis assemblages A (I and II) and E were most repeatedly detected. In the inland area, C. parvum, C. andersoni and G. duodenalis assemblages A (I and II), B and E were most frequently identified.  相似文献

Drinking water biofilm formation on polyvinyl chloride (PVC), cross-linked polyethylene (PEX), high density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP) was followed in three different reactors operating under stagnant or continuous flow regimes. After one week, a quasi-steady state was achieved where biofilm total cell numbers per unit surface area were not affected by fluctuations in the concentration of suspended cells. Metabolically active cells in biofilms were around 17-35% of the total cells and 6-18% were able to form colony units in R(2)A medium. Microbiological analysis showed that the adhesion material and reactor design did not affect significantly the biofilm growth. However, operating under continuous flow (0.8-1.9 Pa) or stagnant water had a significant effect on biofilm formation: in stagnant waters, biofilm grew to a less extent. By applying mass balances and an asymptotic biofilm formation model to data from biofilms grown on PVC and HDPE surfaces under turbulent flow, specific growth rates of bacteria in the biofilm were found to be similar for both materials (around 0.15 day(-1)) and much lower than the specific growth rates of suspended bacteria (around 1.8 day(-1)).  相似文献
